Talvin Lamar Brandon, a 29-year-old from Franklin County, was sentenced to eight years in prison for armed drug trafficking. The sentencing followed an incident where Brandon collided with an officer's patrol car while attempting to evade a traffic stop. On September 3, 2024, he admitted guilt to charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute the same substance.
Court documents revealed that Brandon was a significant source of cocaine in Franklin County. In July 2024, law enforcement officers tried to stop his vehicle following a suspected drug deal. As an officer approached his vehicle, Brandon fled, hitting the patrol car. During the ensuing chase, he lost control of his vehicle and attempted to escape on foot but dropped two kilograms of cocaine in the process. A firearm and loaded magazine were recovered from his vehicle.
The case is part of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) initiative aimed at dismantling high-level drug traffickers and criminal organizations threatening the United States through coordinated efforts among federal, state, and local agencies.
U.S. Attorney Michael F. Easley Jr., for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced the sentence delivered by U.S. District Judge Terrence W. Boyle. The investigation involved the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Casey L. Peaden prosecuting.
