A Creston man, Bryan Michael Vannausdle, aged 34, has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for the receipt of child pornography. Court documents reveal that between September and November 2023, Vannausdle engaged with a minor victim using his cell phone to exchange and store images and videos of child sexual abuse material.
Following his imprisonment, Vannausdle will undergo a five-year term of supervised release. The federal system does not offer parole.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa. The investigation involved multiple agencies including the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Creston Police Department, Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, and Federal Bureau of Investigations.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative started in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to tackle child sexual exploitation and abuse. It involves collaboration among U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section to locate, apprehend, and prosecute offenders while rescuing victims.
