Gabriel Beltran-Lopez, a 38-year-old man from Sinaloa, Mexico, was sentenced in federal court in Omaha, Nebraska, for methamphetamine trafficking. The sentencing took place on November 25, 2024. Chief United States District Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down a sentence of 60 months' imprisonment to Beltran-Lopez for possessing 27 pounds of methamphetamine. Following his prison term, he will undergo a five-year period of supervised release.
The incident leading to Beltran-Lopez's arrest occurred on May 8, 2021. A deputy from the York County Sheriff’s Office stopped him for a traffic violation. During the stop, Beltran-Lopez allowed a search of his vehicle, which led to the discovery of the methamphetamine. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) was involved in the investigation that followed.
After finding the drugs, an undercover agent replaced Beltran-Lopez as the driver and transported the vehicle to Omaha. Upon arrival at an address found within the vehicle, Jose Hernandez-Gomez emerged from a residence and paid $6,000 to the undercover agent for the methamphetamine. Hernandez-Gomez was subsequently arrested and later sentenced on August 18, 2023, to a prison term of 135 months.
The case was investigated by multiple agencies including the York County Sheriff’s Office, DEA, and Omaha Police Department.
