Boswell man pleads guilty to federal drug and firearm charges

Joe Clay Harris, a 39-year-old resident of Boswell, Oklahoma, has pled guilty to federal charges related to drugs and firearms. The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma reported that Harris admitted guilt to possessing methamphetamine with intent to distribute and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to the indictment, on April 6, 2024, Harris was found in possession of methamphetamine and a .22 caliber semi-automatic rifle with five rounds of ammunition. This occurred after he had been previously convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year in prison.

The investigation leading to these charges involved collaboration between the Hugo Police Department, the Choctaw County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Gerald L. Jackson accepted Harris's plea in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. A presentence investigation report is underway as ordered by the court. Meanwhile, Harris remains in custody under the supervision of the United States Marshals Service until his sentencing.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard J. Lorenz on behalf of the United States.
