A California man has been sentenced to 240 months in prison for receiving child pornography. Timothy Vigil, aged 38 from Lemore, California, pleaded guilty to one count of receipt of child pornography.
The case unfolded after the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) arrested Jordan Escobar, an 18-year-old from Kansas City, Kansas, in 2023. Escobar admitted to recording and distributing child sexual abuse material on an online platform. During their investigation, agents discovered that Vigil was the owner of an account that received images from Escobar. Vigil had specifically requested materials containing child pornography through direct messages.
Further investigations revealed that between December 2023 and January 2024, Vigil distributed 29 MEGA links containing over 3,000 videos of child sexual abuse material to other users on the platform.
Escobar has also pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of child pornography and is currently awaiting sentencing.
The FBI led the investigation into this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Audrey McCormick prosecuted the matter.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project seeks to marshal federal, state, and local resources to locate and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the internet and rescue victims.
