A Mexican national, Felipe Garcia, has pleaded guilty to misprision of a felony in a federal court in New Orleans. The plea was entered on November 26, 2024, before U.S. District Judge Susie Morgan. Garcia, who is 46 years old and resides in California, faces potential penalties including up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing is set for February 27, 2025.

The case stems from an investigation into a methamphetamine distribution network operating in New Orleans. The Drug Enforcement Administration and the Louisiana State Police found that the ring received methamphetamine shipments from California through the U.S. mail system. Law enforcement agencies in California intercepted packages containing significant quantities of methamphetamine intended for New Orleans. It was discovered that Garcia had sent these packages from California.

U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans commended the efforts of the Drug Enforcement Administration, Louisiana State Police, Ontario Police Department in California, and New Orleans Police Department for their roles in the investigation. Assistant United States Attorney Stuart Theriot from the Narcotics Unit is handling the prosecution.
