U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced the indictment of Francis Osorio Canales, a 44-year-old Honduran national, for allegedly misusing a social security number to gain employment. The indictment was issued on December 5, 2024, and charges Osorio Canales with violating Title 42, United States Code, Section 408(a)(7)(B).

If found guilty, Osorio Canales could face a sentence of up to five years in prison, a supervised release period of up to three years, and a fine reaching $250,000. Additionally, there is a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.

Evans emphasized that an indictment is simply an accusation and that the defendant's guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.

The U.S. Attorney commended the efforts of the ICE Enforcement Removal Office and Homeland Security Investigations in this case. Assistant United States Attorney Paul J. Hubbell from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
