A Westbrook man has been sentenced to more than five years in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm. Corey Faulkner, 39, received a sentence of 64 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release, as announced today in U.S. District Court in Portland.

The sentencing was delivered by U.S. District Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr. The case stems from an incident in October 2023 when officers from the Westbrook Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting domestic violence at Faulkner's residence.

According to court records, the victim reported being assaulted by Faulkner, including being strangled. After fleeing the scene, she informed officers that Faulkner had firearms and had made suicidal statements. When communication with Faulkner ceased, police established a perimeter around the area and ordered nearby buildings to shelter-in-place.

An arrest warrant was obtained for Faulkner, and law enforcement used unmanned drones and a robot to locate him inside the building's basement bathroom. He surrendered after police breached the bathroom window, ending an eight-hour standoff.

During searches of Faulkner's residence, officers recovered a 12-gauge shotgun, ammunition for both a 12-gauge shotgun and a 9mm pistol, along with a pistol case. A second search revealed a 9mm pistol hidden in a kitchen cabinet.

Faulkner was prohibited from possessing firearms due to previous convictions. In 2013, he was convicted on state charges including operating under the influence and domestic violence assault. In 2018, he faced charges of aggravated assault after attacking another woman.

The investigation into this case was conducted by the Westbrook Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
