Roosevelt Smith, a 27-year-old resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 58 months in prison for drug trafficking offenses. This sentence was handed down by Chief United States District Judge Christina Reiss on December 3, 2024. Following his imprisonment, Smith will serve a five-year term of supervised release.
Smith had previously entered a guilty plea for possession with intent to distribute cocaine base and fentanyl. His arrest occurred on September 21, 2023, in Burlington, Vermont. Law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at the address of 86 N. Champlain St., shortly after Smith returned from Philadelphia. The search led to the seizure of nearly 300 grams of cocaine base and approximately 70 grams of fentanyl.
Further investigation into Smith's phone communications revealed evidence suggestive of drug trafficking activities.
United States Attorney Nikolas P. Kerest praised the investigative efforts carried out by the Burlington Police Department and the Vermont State Police in this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas J. Aliberti prosecuted the case against Smith, who was represented by attorney Mark Kaplan.
