Michael Wilson, a 46-year-old resident of Onalaska, Wisconsin, has been sentenced to 57 months in federal prison for possessing fentanyl with the intent to distribute. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley following Wilson's guilty plea on September 11, 2024.
The case against Wilson began on July 21, 2022, when he sold fentanyl during a monitored delivery in La Crosse, Wisconsin. A week later, law enforcement executed a search warrant at his Onalaska home. There they discovered drug packaging materials and a blender with white powder residue alongside a digital scale used for weighing drugs. Hidden in the ceiling were 96 grams of fentanyl and 83 grams of cocaine.
Judge Conley noted that the sentence was influenced by Wilson's extensive history of drug trafficking convictions dating back to when he was 17 years old. "The 57-month sentence plus four years of supervision following that sentence was necessary to protect the public and allow Wilson the opportunity to earnestly address addiction problems that triggered the drug trafficking," stated Judge Conley.
The investigation leading to Wilson's charge was conducted by the La Crosse Police Department and the Dubuque County Drug Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Anderson prosecuted the case.
