Ulises Casterjon-Gallegos, a 39-year-old Mexican citizen, has been sentenced to four months in federal prison for illegally reentering the United States after being previously removed. The sentencing was announced by Timothy M. O’Shea, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin. U.S. District Judge William M. Conley handed down the sentence following Casterjon-Gallegos's guilty plea on September 11, 2024.
Casterjon-Gallegos was arrested on January 29, 2024, in Barron County, Wisconsin for possessing methamphetamine. He had initially been removed from the United States in 2008 and had been deported four additional times before his recent arrest.
During sentencing, Judge Conley addressed Casterjon-Gallegos's substance abuse issues and previous convictions and arrests related to domestic abuse. "Judge Conley urged him to take a lengthy period of sobriety and to reevaluate his treatment of the women in his life," highlighting the importance of personal change. The judge also warned that further illegal reentry would result in more severe consequences.
The investigation leading to this charge was conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) alongside the Barron County Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Colleen Lennon prosecuted the case.
