U.S. Attorney Timothy Duax | U.S. Department of Justice
Krystopher Cordeiro, a 23-year-old resident of Cherokee, Iowa, has been sentenced to over three years in federal prison for possession of child pornography. The sentence was handed down on November 20, 2024, by United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand in Sioux City.
Evidence presented in the case revealed that between January 1 and September 26, 2023, Cordeiro possessed child pornography. In April and May of the same year, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a CyberTip indicating that Cordeiro’s account had uploaded child pornography on four occasions. During a search of his residence in September 2023, law enforcement discovered over 200 images and 10 videos of actual child pornography along with more than 1,000 images and 133 videos depicting simulated children. Some simulated images were reportedly indistinguishable from real children engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
Cordeiro admitted to searching for "teen porn" and possessing videos depicting sadistic and masochistic conduct involving prepubescent children and toddlers. As part of his sentencing, he was ordered to pay $6,100 in fines and assessments along with $6,000 in restitution to the victims. After serving his prison term, he will be subject to a five-year supervised release period. It is noted that there is no parole within the federal system.
Currently held in United States Marshal's custody, Cordeiro awaits transfer to a federal prison facility.
This case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse nationwide. The project coordinates resources from federal, state, and local agencies to prosecute offenders and assist victims.
