U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, Mark Totten, announced that Kevin Dunson from Lansing has been indicted by a federal grand jury. The charges include possession with intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine and cocaine, and being a felon in possession of firearms. Dunson was initially arrested on November 1, 2024, on these charges.

"The trafficking of illegal drugs is a scourge that destroys lives and harms communities," said U.S. Attorney Mark Totten. He emphasized the need for comprehensive strategies involving enforcement, prevention, and treatment to address this issue.

Law enforcement conducted searches on October 29, 2024, at Dunson's residence and other locations in Lansing. These searches were part of an investigation that involved surveillance and analysis of records identifying Dunson as a major trafficker. The operation resulted in the seizure of over four kilograms of methamphetamine, two kilograms of cocaine, four firearms, and $544,697 in cash.

Dunson's prior felony convictions prohibit him from possessing firearms. If convicted on these charges, he faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years up to life imprisonment for drug-related offenses and up to 15 years for firearm offenses.

"Illicit drug distribution erodes communities and destroys lives," stated Orville Green from the DEA's Detroit Field Division. He noted that this indictment serves as a warning to those distributing drugs like methamphetamine and cocaine.

The case is being investigated by the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration alongside local law enforcement agencies including the Tri-County Metro Narcotics Team, Michigan State Police, and Lansing Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Joel S. Fauson is leading the prosecution.

It is important to note that an indictment contains accusations only; defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
