Carl Harris, chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB), has expressed his condolences following the death of former President Jimmy Carter. Harris, a custom home builder from Wichita, Kansas, shared his thoughts in a statement acknowledging Carter's contributions to affordable housing.
"NAHB joins the rest of the nation in mourning the passing of former President Jimmy Carter, a great statesman, humanitarian and housing advocate," Harris stated. He highlighted Carter's long-standing commitment to affordable housing, noting that "President Carter was always an advocate for affordable housing."
Harris emphasized Carter's work with Habitat for Humanity alongside his wife, Rosalynn. The couple dedicated decades to promoting affordable housing initiatives. "For decades in his post-presidency, Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, kept this vital issue front and center through their work with Habitat for Humanity, whose mission is to build affordable housing," Harris said.
Carter's hands-on involvement in building homes for families was also noted by Harris. "With his own hands, President Carter helped to build countless homes for worthy families because he understood that homeownership is vital to the American way of life," he remarked.
Harris concluded by recognizing Carter's service and patriotism: "A former Navy submariner, President Carter was a true American patriot, and the nation’s home builders salute his lifetime of service to America."
