A Macon resident, Felix Cordes, has admitted to committing two bank robberies and an attempted robbery in 2022. The crimes involved the use of a firearm and resulted in victims experiencing panic attacks. Cordes stole a total of $38,274 during these incidents.

Cordes, aged 57, pleaded guilty to bank robbery before U.S. District Judge Marc Treadwell on January 2. He could face up to 25 years in prison, followed by five years of supervised release and a maximum fine of $250,000. The court will determine his sentencing date. Notably, there is no parole available in the federal system.

U.S. Attorney Peter D. Leary commented on the case: “Bank tellers were terrified when Felix Cordes walked into their workplace and threatened them with a firearm... Individuals whose criminal actions terrorize our community will be held accountable for their crimes.”

Robert Gibbs from FBI Atlanta’s Macon office expressed relief that no one was physically harmed during the robberies: “We are extremely grateful that no one was physically hurt or killed during these violent robberies.”

Bibb County Sheriff David Davis described Cordes as "a ruthless and relentless criminal" who posed a significant threat to innocent bank employees.

Court documents reveal that Cordes robbed MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union on April 2, 2022, using disguises and brandishing a handgun. He later robbed Central Georgia Regional Credit Union on May 2 with an accomplice while wearing blue latex gloves and carrying a firearm.

An attempted third robbery at another MidSouth Community Federal Credit Union location on May 24 was thwarted by alert staff who locked down the bank upon seeing Cordes approach with an accomplice.

Investigations led by the FBI and Bibb County Sheriff's Office found evidence linking Cordes to these crimes at his residence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Joy Odom is prosecuting the case for the government.
