U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe | U.S. Department of Justice
A former track and field athlete, Olivier Ricardy Alexandre, was sentenced to 240 months in prison for firearms offenses. U.S. District Court Judge David S. Leibowitz imposed the sentence, which included an upward variance of 105 months. Alexandre had previously pled guilty to charges of possession of ammunition by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon.
The charges stem from incidents in Miami-Dade County in March 2023. On March 13, Alexandre fired at least 18 rounds at a victim on their front porch without reloading. The Miami-Dade Police Department's Forensic Services Division linked the shell casings to three previous shootings involving the same gun, including one incident in October 2022 with the same victim.
On March 21, while under surveillance by Plantation Police Department officers, Alexandre confronted a tow truck driver with a handgun equipped with an extended drum magazine during an attempted vehicle repossession. He was arrested shortly after this confrontation.
The case was announced by U.S. Attorney Markenzy Lapointe for the Southern District of Florida along with Special Agent in Charge Christopher A. Robinson of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), Acting Inspector in Charge Steven Hodges of the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), Miami Division, and Director Stephanie V. Daniels of MDPD.
The investigation involved ATF, USPIS, MDPD, Plantation Police Department, and Broward Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Hayden P. O’Byrne prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), which aims to reduce gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. More information about PSN can be found at Justice.gov/PSN.
