United States Attorney Susan Lehr announced the sentencing of Shaquille Moniz, a 31-year-old resident of Walthill, Nebraska. On January 3, 2025, Moniz was sentenced in federal court in Omaha for domestic assault by an habitual offender in Indian Country. Chief United States District Court Judge Robert F. Rossiter, Jr. handed down a sentence of 37 months' imprisonment to Moniz. In the federal system, parole is not available. Following his release from prison, Moniz will serve a three-year term of supervised release.
The assault took place in April 2024 when Moniz attacked his then-girlfriend, causing substantial bodily injury. At the time of this offense, Moniz had prior convictions for domestic violence offenses in both state and tribal courts.
The case was prosecuted federally because it was classified as a felony and occurred on the Omaha Nation Indian Reservation in Nebraska.
The investigation into this case was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
