A Tennessee resident, Mark Anderson, has been sentenced to two months in prison for using a drone to deliver marijuana to an inmate at the Yazoo City Federal Correctional Complex. Following his prison term, Anderson will be on supervised release for three years.
Court documents reveal that Anderson, aged 50 and from Tullahoma, Tennessee, used a drone to transport approximately 195 grams of marijuana over the correctional facility. The incident occurred during the early morning hours of October 2, 2021. The delivery was made by releasing the package from the air for an inmate to retrieve.
Anderson entered a guilty plea on September 26, 2024.
The announcement of Anderson's sentencing was made by U.S. Attorney Todd W. Gee of the Southern District of Mississippi and Acting Special Agent in Charge Eric DeLaune of Homeland Security Investigations.
The investigation was conducted by Homeland Security Investigations along with the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bert Carraway prosecuted the case.
