A federal judge has sentenced Michael Eaton, 41, from Union City, Tennessee to 105 months in prison for possession of a firearm as a convicted felon. The sentence was announced by Reagan Fondren, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee.
Court evidence revealed that on February 11, 2023, an officer from the Union City Police Department stopped a silver Ford SUV near Todd Street due to a window tint violation. During the stop, passenger Eaton was found with a loaded Charter Arms .38 special caliber revolver after a confrontation with law enforcement.
Eaton's criminal history includes a 2000 conviction for possession of a controlled substance with intent to resell and an eight-year sentence in 2010 for attempting to rob a grocery store at gunpoint. In January 2024, he was indicted in the Western District of Tennessee and pled guilty in August 2024.
On December 30, 2024, United States District Court Judge S. Thomas Anderson handed down Eaton's sentence of over eight years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. Federal sentences do not include parole.
The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhood Initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through community collaboration and strategic enforcement priorities.
The investigation was conducted by the Union City Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Fondren expressed gratitude towards Assistant United States Attorney Immanuel Chioco for prosecuting the case and acknowledged law enforcement partners' contributions.
