The United States has announced the signing of a $27 million Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) Threshold Program agreement with the Government of the Islamic Republic of Mauritania. This program aims to enhance Mauritania's capacity in power sector planning, grid operations, and electricity regulation. It will provide debt-free grants for developing environmental resilience projects and integrating climate change and social considerations into environmental impact assessments.
"This Threshold Program represents a critical step in our ongoing partnership with Mauritania," stated Matthew Miller, Department Spokesperson. He emphasized that by enhancing the power sector and improving environmental adaptation, the program will contribute to Mauritania’s long-term economic prosperity and environmental sustainability.
The investment is expected to support infrastructure development, attract private sector investment, and create prosperity for Mauritanians. The United States remains committed to supporting Mauritania's efforts towards inclusive growth and resilience building. "We look forward to working closely with our Mauritanian partners to implement this program and achieve meaningful progress in these vital areas," added Miller.
