Gregory William Douglas McCormick, a 22-year-old from Mapleton, Iowa, has pled guilty to possession of child pornography in federal court in Sioux City. The plea was entered on January 6, 2025.
McCormick admitted to receiving, distributing, and possessing child pornography as part of a plea agreement. During an initial police interview, he acknowledged the presence of child pornography on his current and two older cell phones. Additionally, McCormick distributed images and videos through the social media platform Kik. A forensic search revealed that McCormick possessed 120 images and seven videos depicting child pornography, including content involving infants and toddlers with sadistic and masochistic conduct.
Sentencing will be determined by United States District Court Chief Judge Leonard T. Strand after a presentence report is completed. Following his guilty plea, McCormick was taken into custody by the United States Marshal and will remain detained until sentencing. He faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and supervised release ranging from five years to life after imprisonment.
The case is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. This program coordinates federal, state, and local resources to prosecute offenders who exploit children and rescue victims.
