United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero has announced the sentencing of Kyle Teat, a 34-year-old resident of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Teat was sentenced by United States District Court Judge John M. Younge to 46 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release for firearms offenses.

Teat had pleaded guilty in July last year to charges related to dealing in firearms without a license and possession of a firearm by a felon. These charges stemmed from an incident in October 2019 when Teat unlawfully possessed and sold a semiautomatic rifle capable of accepting a large-capacity magazine to an undercover federal agent.

"Kyle Teat knew that he wasn’t supposed to possess a firearm, given his criminal record, and he certainly knew he wasn’t permitted to sell one," said U.S. Attorney Romero. "Nonetheless, he did both. Getting guns away from people who shouldn’t have them is critical to battling violent crime in Philadelphia. My office and our partners will use every tool at our disposal to do so, as we work to make the city safer."

The investigation was carried out by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with the Philadelphia Police Department. The prosecution is being handled by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas M. Zaleski.
