U.S. Attorney Timothy Duax | U.S. Department of Justice
A 26-year-old Sioux City resident, Antonio Rockwood, has been sentenced to a decade in federal prison following his guilty plea to charges of firearm possession by a felon, drug user, and misdemeanant domestic abuser. The sentencing took place after Rockwood's August 2024 admission of guilt.
The case stems from an incident in September 2023 when Sioux City Police attempted to stop a Silver Chrysler 300 with dark window tint driven by Rockwood. The vehicle fled but was later found abandoned after colliding with two parked cars. A neighbor identified Rockwood as the driver who had escaped into a nearby residence. During the investigation, officers discovered a handgun between the driver's seat and center console and found methamphetamine weighing 153 grams in a backpack inside the vehicle. A search warrant led officers to find Rockwood hiding in an attic crawl space.
Rockwood's criminal history includes felony convictions for theft and controlled substance violations, along with a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in Woodbury County, Iowa.
United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand sentenced Rockwood to 120 months' imprisonment followed by three years of supervised release. There is no parole available in the federal system.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative by the Department of Justice aimed at reducing violent crime through community collaboration and focused enforcement on violent offenders.
Currently, Rockwood remains in United States Marshal’s custody pending his transfer to federal prison. The investigation was conducted by the Sioux City Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Forde Fairchild.
