U.S. Attorney Damien M. Diggs | U.S. Department of Justice
United States Attorney Damien M. Diggs has announced his resignation as the chief federal law enforcement officer for the Eastern District of Texas, effective January 21, 2025. Nominated by President Joseph R. Biden on February 2, 2023, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on May 4, 2023, Diggs was sworn in on May 7, 2023.
“I will forever be grateful to President Biden, Attorney General Garland, and Senators John Cornyn and Ted Cruz for having confidence in me to serve our nation and the citizens of the Eastern District of Texas,” said U.S. Attorney Diggs.
During his tenure, Diggs led an office of nearly 100 employees across six offices in Beaumont, Lufkin, Plano, Sherman, Texarkana, and Tyler. His focus included public safety and civil rights among other areas.
Under his leadership, significant successes were achieved in criminal matters such as gun violence and drug trafficking cases. He also expanded Project Safe Neighborhoods programs and initiated several operations targeting crime.
The Civil Division saw record successes with settlements involving Walgreens and Medisca Inc., among others. Diggs also pursued civil rights protections within the district.
As U.S. Attorney Diggs steps down, First Assistant U.S. Attorney Abe McGlothin Jr. will take over as Acting U.S. Attorney until a successor is appointed.
