U.S. Attorney Jessica D. Aber | U.S. Department of Justice
A Suffolk man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for drug trafficking and firearms offenses. The sentencing follows the interception of a package containing two pounds of crystal methamphetamine shipped from Murrieta, California, to Norfolk through the U.S. Postal Service on September 15, 2023.
Court documents reveal that law enforcement removed most of the methamphetamine from the package, leaving only 33 grams before conducting a controlled delivery to its intended address. Dobeir Quam Rudolph, aged 35, collected the package but resisted arrest and attempted to flee in his vehicle. During this attempt, officers noted Rudolph reaching for something and trying to destroy his cellphone. He was eventually detained.
A search of Rudolph's vehicle led investigators to recover a handgun where he had been reaching. As a felon with two prior convictions, Rudolph is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.
The announcement was made by Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Anthony A. Spotswood, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division; Jarod Forget, Special Agent in Charge for the DEA’s Washington Division; Jason S. Miyares, Attorney General of Virginia; and Mark Talbot, Chief of Norfolk Police after sentencing by U.S. District Judge Arenda Wright Allen.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Kevin M. Comstock and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc W. West prosecuted the case.
