Antony Blinken, the outgoing Secretary of State, has been actively engaged in diplomatic efforts until his final days in office. With just over a week remaining in his tenure, Blinken recently completed a series of international meetings spanning Seoul, Tokyo, Paris, and Rome. Throughout his time as Secretary of State, he has traveled more than a million miles.

In an interview with CBS News Sunday Morning's Martha Teichner, Blinken emphasized the importance of using every moment effectively: "Every minute, every hour, every day of the time that we have left we’re focused on getting results."

During a recent trip to Brussels for a NATO foreign ministers meeting, Blinken highlighted NATO's new Strategic Concept and its recognition of Russia as a significant threat. He noted the significance of alliances and partnerships: "The instruction I got from President Biden on day one was get in there, rejuvenate, re-energize, and even reimagine our alliances and partnerships."

Blinken also addressed U.S. support for Ukraine amid Russian aggression: "All told, the United States has provided $102 billion in assistance to Ukraine." He underscored the collaborative efforts with allies and partners who contributed $158 billion.

As President-elect Donald Trump prepares to take office with plans to address Russia’s war with Ukraine, Blinken remains cautious about speculating on future policies but stresses preparing the next administration: "What does make sense is to make sure that we give the next administration...the strongest possible hand for it to play around the world."

Reflecting on his personal history and career path influenced by family stories and experiences abroad, Blinken shared an impactful story about his stepfather's liberation during World War II. This narrative underscores his lifelong connection to diplomacy.

Blinken’s career includes significant roles under multiple administrations. His close relationship with President Biden dates back to when he served as national security advisor during Biden's vice presidency. Despite challenges such as defending the U.S.'s withdrawal from Afghanistan or navigating complex relationships like that with Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu after conflicts involving Gaza and Hamas attacks on Israel in 2023—Blinken remains committed to fostering peace efforts.

On potential future plans post-tenure at the State Department, Blinken remains noncommittal but maintains focus until January 21st: "That really is my focus...Now talk to me on January 21st."
