United States Attorney Mac Schneider has announced the release of the 2024 Community Report for the United States Attorney’s Office in North Dakota (USAO-ND). The report outlines the office's activities and accomplishments during fiscal year 2024, both in legal proceedings and community engagements across the district.
Mac Schneider expressed his pride in the team at USAO-ND, stating, “I could not be prouder of the career prosecutors, civil litigators, and talented staff of the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of North Dakota. They exhibit not just excellence in the courtroom, but also a commitment to our communities and law enforcement partners that makes North Dakota a safer place. Upholding the rule of law, keeping our country safe, and protecting civil rights is not just a mission statement, it’s the daily work of the office.”
According to Department of Justice data, USAO-ND ranked first among ten districts in its circuit regarding defendants per Assistant United States Attorney. Nationally, it was sixth out of 94 districts in this category. Despite managing a heavy caseload, they achieved a conviction rate exceeding 95% in 2024. Additionally, over 95% of criminal appeals resolved on their merits were decided in favor of USAO-ND last year.
The report highlights several initiatives aimed at addressing violent crime drivers and enhancing public safety on Indian lands. It also details efforts to protect children, combat drug-related issues, prevent fraud, and ensure safety along North Dakota's northern border. The Civil Division's work is noted for its role in defending taxpayers through complex litigation representation and enforcing federal civil rights laws.
