Agents from the U.S. Border Patrol's San Diego Sector have apprehended a man wanted by INTERPOL for sexual abuse of a minor. The arrest took place on January 3, 2025, near Dulzura, California. An agent conducting an immigration inspection on State Route 94 stopped a suspicious SUV and discovered that the two passengers were in the United States illegally.

The driver, a 44-year-old Spanish citizen, was also found to be in the country illegally after overstaying his visa. Record checks revealed he was the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice, which is issued to locate and provisionally arrest individuals pending extradition or similar legal actions. The man had been sought by U.S. Marshals and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) due to this notice.

Following their arrest, the driver and passengers were taken to a nearby Border Patrol station for processing. INTERPOL was informed of the driver's arrest, and Border Patrol seized the vehicle involved.

"U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is America's frontline: the nation's largest law enforcement organization and the world's first unified border management agency," states CBP's official description of its role.
