Brian Neil Wiggins, a 50-year-old resident of Casper, Wyoming, has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release. The sentence was handed down by Chief U.S. District Court Judge Scott W. Skavdahl on January 10 in Casper. Wiggins faced charges for being a felon in possession of a firearm and for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine.
The case against Wiggins began in March 2024 when the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) received information suggesting that he was involved in selling methamphetamine and carrying firearms despite his status as a convicted felon. An investigation revealed that Wiggins was on parole and had an upcoming meeting with his parole officer scheduled for March 22, 2024, in Casper.
During the meeting, law enforcement officers searched Wiggins' truck and property. They discovered a Taurus 9mm handgun, approximately 160 fentanyl pills (16 grams), 167 grams of suspected methamphetamine, a digital scale, and several small baggies. A subsequent search of his apartment uncovered additional items including 33 milliliters of liquid methamphetamine, a Glock .40 caliber handgun with an obliterated serial number, a high-capacity magazine for a 9mm gun, and various drug paraphernalia.
Wiggins was indicted on May 16, 2024, and entered a guilty plea on August 27, 2024. The investigation into his activities was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives along with DCI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Paige Hammer prosecuted the case.
