Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia
A Farmville man has been sentenced to over 13 years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge David J. Novak in Richmond, Virginia.
Court documents reveal that on October 31, 2023, an officer from the Richmond Police Department found Pierre Redd, 32, asleep in the driver seat of a vehicle at an intersection. The car was still in drive, and a loaded handgun was visible between Redd's legs along with a bag containing 15.3 grams of cocaine in his hand.
The officer opened the driver-side door, removed the firearm and cocaine, and woke Redd. Despite being instructed to put the car in park, Redd refused and eventually drove off after being partially handcuffed by the officer.
The officer pursued Redd with lights and sirens as Redd ran multiple stop signs and drove on the wrong side of the street before stopping at an apartment complex. There, he exited his vehicle without putting it in park but was subdued and arrested following a foot chase.
At the time of this incident, Redd had prior felony convictions for crimes including attempted malicious wounding and possession of a firearm by a felon. As such, he is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition legally.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Patrick J. McGorman and Stephen W. Miller. The announcement came from Jessica D. Aber, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; Anthony A. Spotswood, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Washington Field Division; and Rick Edwards, Chief of Richmond Police.
