Orlando, Florida – U.S. District Judge Roy B. Dalton has sentenced Jamel Williams, aged 26 from Altamonte Springs, to four years and six months in federal prison for conspiracy, bank fraud, and aggravated identity theft. Levar Baker, aged 21 from Orlando, received a sentence of three years and six months in federal prison for the same offenses. Both individuals had previously pleaded guilty on August 21 and September 17, 2024.
Court documents reveal that between March and August 2023, Williams and Baker obtained stolen mail containing checks. They altered the payees on these checks and fraudulently negotiated them at banks throughout the Middle District of Florida. Their criminal activities resulted in defrauding victims of $307,185.65.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. It was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Kara Wick.
