Duane A. Evans, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Louisiana
United States Attorney Duane A. Evans has announced that Evin Enrique Funez Cruz, a 22-year-old Honduran national, has been charged with reentry of a removed alien. The charge was filed on January 15, 2025, in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Court documents reveal that Funez Cruz was apprehended in St. Tammany Parish around January 6, 2025. He had previously been deported to Honduras on June 21, 2024.
If found guilty, Funez Cruz could face up to ten years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000, three years of supervised release, and a mandatory special assessment fee of $100.
U.S. Attorney Evans emphasized that the bill of information is merely an accusation and the defendant's guilt must be established beyond a reasonable doubt.
Evans commended the efforts of U.S. Customs and Border Protection in their investigation of this case. Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis from the General Crimes Unit is leading the prosecution.
