A Sacramento resident has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for his involvement in two armed robberies of financial institutions. United States District Judge Miranda M. Du handed down the sentence, which includes five years of supervised release following the prison term.
Devon Jones, aged 32, admitted guilt to charges including interference with commerce by robbery, bank robbery, and discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
Court documents reveal that on January 24, 2022, Jones robbed a money lending business in Reno. During this incident, he brandished a semi-automatic 9mm pistol at an employee and demanded money. He discharged the weapon before fleeing with cash. Just days later, on January 27, 2022, Jones targeted a bank in Carson City. Upon entering the bank, he fired a shot and demanded money from a teller. After noticing alarm lights flashing, he fired again and ordered employees to the ground before escaping with stolen funds.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Jason M. Frierson for the District of Nevada and Special Agent in Charge Spencer L. Evans for the FBI.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI, with Assistant United States Attorney Megan Rachow prosecuting the case.
