Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Calexico East Port of Entry discovered liquid methamphetamine concealed in a vehicle's gas tank. The incident occurred on Saturday around 2:50 p.m. when a 52-year-old female driver and a 46-year-old male passenger attempted to enter the United States in a 2002 SUV.
During an initial inspection, CBP officers directed the travelers and their vehicle to secondary examination. Utilizing non-intrusive technology, officers conducted a thorough scan of the vehicle, identifying irregularities in the gas tank area. A CBP K-9 unit was called in and detected narcotics.
The investigation led to the extraction of 254.85 pounds of liquid from the gas tank, which tested positive for methamphetamine. "Drug traffickers will go to great lengths in their attempts to deceive our officers," stated Roque Caza, Calexico Area Port Director. "I’m proud of our highly trained officers working diligently every day to combat these dangerous drugs that have claimed so many lives."
Following this discovery, CBP officers seized both the vehicle and narcotics. The individuals involved were detained and handed over to Homeland Security Investigations for further processing.
