The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Acting Chairman Mark T. Uyeda announced the creation of a new task force aimed at establishing a clear regulatory framework for crypto assets. Commissioner Hester Peirce will lead this initiative, with Richard Gabbert and Taylor Asher serving as Chief of Staff and Chief Policy Advisor, respectively.

The task force is tasked with collaborating across the agency to create a regulatory path that respects legal boundaries. The SEC has primarily used enforcement actions to regulate crypto in the past, which has led to confusion and a challenging environment for innovation. The new task force aims to clarify registration requirements and provide practical solutions for compliance.

Operating within Congress's statutory framework, the task force will coordinate with federal agencies like the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and international counterparts. "I look forward to the efforts of Commissioner Peirce," said Acting Chairman Uyeda.

Commissioner Peirce emphasized that success requires input from various stakeholders: "This undertaking will take time, patience, and much hard work." The task force plans future roundtables and invites public input via email at Crypto@sec.gov.
