United States District Judge Sheri P. Chappell has sentenced Joshua Leon Tyree, a 39-year-old resident of Labelle, Florida, to 19 years in federal prison. Tyree was charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. He pled guilty on September 23, 2024.
Court documents reveal that the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Tyree's home, uncovering nearly one pound of methamphetamine intended for distribution and 24 assorted rifles and handguns. Tyree admitted ownership of these items to the deputies.
The investigation was conducted by the Hendry County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Patrick L. Darcey prosecuted the case.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program designed to reduce violent crime and gun violence by fostering trust within communities and setting strategic enforcement priorities. The Department launched an enhanced violent crime reduction strategy for PSN on May 26, 2021.
