Sex offender pleads guilty again; faces lengthy prison term

Damian Quillinan, a 50-year-old resident of Broadalbin, New York, has pled guilty to possessing child pornography while under post-release supervision for previous offenses. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Erin Keegan, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI), Buffalo Field Office.

Quillinan is a registered sex offender due to his 2017 convictions in the Northern District of New York for multiple counts related to child pornography. After being released from incarceration, he manipulated a video of a prepubescent minor obtained online to create an inappropriate image. This image was found on his tablet during a law enforcement search in September 2024.

He admitted to violating the terms of his supervised release by committing this new offense and possessing unauthorized internet-capable devices. His sentencing is scheduled for May 22, 2025, before United States District Judge Mae A. D’Agostino.

Quillinan faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to 20 years in prison for the new offense. Additionally, he could receive up to two more years for violating supervised release terms. He may also be fined up to $250,000 and face supervised release ranging from five years to life. Restitution payments and forfeiture of the device used in the crime are also possible outcomes.

The case was investigated by HSI with Assistant United States Attorneys Benjamin S. Clark and Nicholas Walter prosecuting as part of Project Safe Childhood. This initiative, launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006, aims to combat child exploitation through coordinated efforts at federal, state, and local levels.
