Former corrections officer sentenced for supplying firearm to felon

Brian Mills, a former corrections officer from Dannemora, New York, has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for providing a firearm to a felon. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Carla B. Freedman and Erin Keegan, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) at the Buffalo Field Office.

Mills admitted guilt to trading firearms and other items with Dustin J. Manor during the summer of 2022. These included a New England Firearms Company Model Pardner-SP1 .410-gauge shotgun, an Armalite rifle, ammunition, an ammunition magazine, and two body armor vests. The transactions took place at Manor's apartment in Plattsburgh, New York. Mills was aware that Manor was legally prohibited from possessing these items due to his status as a felon.

The Plattsburgh Police Department seized the shotgun along with other ammunition and body armor from Manor's residence on October 20, 2022. This action followed their response to a domestic incident at the location.

Manor had previous felony convictions related to drugs dating back to 2014 and had served five years in state prison as a result.

Following his arrest, Mills resigned from his position as a corrections officer at Clinton Correctional Facility. Senior United States District Judge Lawrence E. Kahn also ordered Mills to serve two years of supervised release following his imprisonment.

In August, Manor received a sentence of 57 months in prison along with three years of supervised release for possessing the shotgun and ammunition as a felon.

The investigation was conducted by HSI and the Plattsburgh Police Department, while Assistant U.S. Attorney Douglas G. Collyer prosecuted the case.
