William S. Thompson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of West Virginia
Demoreal Killebrew, an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institution McDowell, has been sentenced to one year and three months in prison for possessing a weapon while incarcerated. This sentence will be followed by three years of supervised release.
Court documents reveal that on January 29, 2023, a staff member at FCI McDowell found a "shank" in Killebrew's left shoe during a search. The shank was described as a metal rod about five and one-half inches long with a sharpened point and a plastic cap used as a handle. Killebrew admitted to owning the shank and acknowledged its purpose as a weapon.
The announcement was made by United States Attorney Will Thompson, who praised the investigative efforts of the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Senior United States District Judge David A. Faber delivered the sentence. The new prison term will commence after Killebrew completes his current incarceration period, with supervised release starting upon his release from prison. Assistant United States Attorneys Timothy D. Boggess and Brian D. Parsons handled the prosecution.
