Boston man receives prison sentence for federal ammunition charge

Joshua S. Levy, U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the District of Massachusetts

A Boston man has been sentenced in federal court for being a felon in possession of ammunition. Nicholas Carle, aged 36, received a sentence of 42 months in prison followed by three years of supervised release. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Richard G. Stearns.

Carle had pleaded guilty to the charge in September 2024 after initially being charged in April 2023. The charges stemmed from an incident on December 18, 2022, when Carle fled law enforcement during a traffic stop and dropped his coat. A Smith & Wesson .357 revolver loaded with six rounds was found inside the coat. Additionally, approximately 2.5 pounds of what appeared to be marijuana were discovered in the vehicle's trunk.

Carle's previous felony convictions include possession of a firearm without a permit, which prohibits him from possessing firearms or ammunition.

The announcement was made by United States Attorney Leah B. Foley and James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives' Boston Field Division. The Massachusetts State Police provided valuable assistance during the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorneys William F. Abely and Julien M. Mundele prosecuted the case.
