Pryor man receives life sentence for aggravated child sexual abuse

Clinton J. Johnson U.S. Attorney | U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma

Adam Joseph King has been sentenced to life imprisonment following his conviction for aggravated sexual abuse and abusive sexual contact with a minor under 12 in Indian Country. The sentencing was handed down by U.S. District Judge John D. Russell in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

U.S. Attorney Clint Johnson stated, "King took advantage of a child entrusted in his care and continues to show no remorse for his actions. The only way to stop someone like King and protect the community is by giving him a lengthy prison sentence."

Evidence presented during the trial demonstrated that King repeatedly abused his girlfriend's child over several years, starting when the victim was eight years old. The child eventually reported the abuse to a school counselor after enduring it until age eleven. Expert testimony confirmed that DNA evidence collected from King's bedroom matched that of the victim.

The investigation revealed that both King and the child's mother denied any misconduct on King's part. Following the initiation of the investigation, the victim and her sibling were removed from their home and placed with their grandparents.

The FBI, Catoosa Police Department, and Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations conducted the investigation into King's actions. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Valeria Luster and Matthew Cyran prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Childhood (PSC), an initiative launched by the Department of Justice in May 2006 aimed at combating child sexual exploitation and abuse.
