According to reports from Nanchang, Jiangxi Province, an evangelical house church faced disruption during its Sunday worship service on January 5, 2025. The service was interrupted and at least ten church staff members were taken by police for questioning and detention. Among those detained, three Christians - one brother and two sisters - were held for more than 24 hours. The next morning, they were verbally informed of their administrative detention by the police station. Although no official fine notice was issued that day, they were released the next day.

The church circulated a prayer request letter stating, “We are just a group of Christians meeting on Sundays to worship our Lord. We have not broken any laws - this is just the excuse the government needs to persecute the church. We pray that God will grant peace in the souls of our brothers and sisters, and that God will especially work on the pastorate of our church.”

The incident raises the question of whether these riots and arrests of Christians early in the New Year are part of a larger government action against house churches.
