Competition regulators in the UK have launched an investigation into the mobile ecosystems of Apple and Google. The probe, conducted by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA), will scrutinize app store terms and practices, focusing on their interactions with developers.
Matthew Sinclair, Senior Director and head of CCIA's London office, expressed concerns about potential regulatory interventions. "Consumers want phones and apps that are easy to use and keep their data secure," he stated. He added that consumers might not support CMA actions if they seem to favor competitors over ensuring a safe and convenient user experience. Sinclair emphasized the importance of the CMA aligning with government goals to foster innovation and growth while avoiding excessive regulations.
