The National Association of Realtors, along with several other housing trade groups, has expressed gratitude to Representatives Mark Alford (R-MO), Tracey Mann (R-KS), Luis Correa (D-CA), and Brittany Pettersen (D-CO) for reintroducing the Bipartisan Congressional Real Estate Caucus. The initiative aims to address the shortage of affordable housing units and limited supply that hinder many Americans from achieving homeownership.
Research indicates that the United States is currently short by more than 4.5 million housing units, highlighting a significant underinvestment in housing infrastructure. This shortage has pushed home costs beyond an affordable range for many individuals. The caucus seeks to promote policies that will expand the real estate sector and facilitate homeownership.
The National Association of Realtors emphasized the bipartisan nature of the issue: "Lawmakers from across the political spectrum are in overwhelming agreement that this nation is facing a housing affordability crisis." They also expressed their intention to collaborate closely with the caucus to increase housing supply.
The National Multifamily Housing Council echoed similar sentiments, stating: "Housing is not a red or blue state issue but an issue of critical importance for Americans in every community across the country."
Other organizations such as the National Apartment Association, Real Estate Technology and Transformation Center, US Mortgage Insurers, and others have voiced their support for this initiative. They emphasize the need for bold action on housing policy and look forward to working alongside congressional leaders.
The LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance also welcomed these efforts, noting: "We look forward to bipartisan efforts that recognize homeownership is for everyone."
American Land Title Association commended Representatives Alford, Mann, Correa, and Pettersen for their leadership: “We commend Representatives Alford, Mann, Correa, and Pettersen for continuing to lead the Bipartisan Congressional Real Estate Caucus.”
With projections indicating significant growth in Hispanic homeownership by 2040, organizations like NAHREP stress its importance in closing wealth gaps. Meanwhile, groups like Leading Builders of America highlight the necessity of making housing a national priority.
