Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a conversation with Vietnam Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son. During the discussion, both leaders marked the 30th anniversary of U.S.-Vietnam relations and acknowledged advancements achieved under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Regional issues were also on the agenda, with Secretary Rubio addressing China's assertive actions in the South China Sea. The economic relationship between the two nations was another focal point, as Secretary Rubio urged Vietnam to work on rectifying trade imbalances.
The call concluded with Secretary Rubio extending wishes for a Happy Tet and a prosperous new year to Foreign Minister Son.
