Senator Creighton has introduced Senate Bill 2, aiming to establish Education Savings Accounts (ESAs) in Texas. This initiative includes a $1 billion allocation from the general budget and offers universal eligibility, positioning it as the largest Day One program of its kind in the United States.

Greg Sindelar, CEO of the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF), expressed support for this move: “Empowering parents through school choice has been a core mission of TPPF since our founding 36 years ago.” He further stated that TPPF is eager to collaborate with Senator Creighton, Lieutenant Governor Patrick, Speaker Burrows, and the Texas House to advance educational choice for all Texan children and their families.

Mandy Drogin, TPPF’s campaign director for Next Generation Texas, highlighted the significance of the bill: “Senator Creighton’s bill would establish the largest day one ESA program in the nation.” She emphasized that universal eligibility ensures no child is excluded and provides every parent with educational choices for their children. Drogin added that this development would enhance education systems across public, private, charter, or homeschool settings in Texas.
