U.S. Representative Mark Green, Chair of the House Homeland Security Committee, said that 1.5 million illegal aliens entered the United States with "insufficient vetting" during the Biden administration. He made this statement in a press release dated January 25.
"1.5 million inadmissible aliens were unlawfully paroled into our communities, with insufficient vetting," said U.S. Rep. Mark Green (R-TN), Chairman of House Homeland Security Committee, according to Homeland Security Committee.
According to a press release from the House Homeland Republicans, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) issued a memo granting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) the authority to review the legitimacy of illegal aliens who entered the country through mass parole programs.
In his comments on the memo, Green said that mass parole programs such as the Venezuelan CHNV program and the CBP One app contained "fraud." He expressed approval for President Trump and DHS for addressing these issues.
In 2023, Mexico implemented a policy requiring non-citizens to be turned away unless they had an appointment through CBP One, which could only be scheduled in Northern Mexico, according to the Washington Examiner. The cartels reportedly began selling VPN services that allowed individuals to bypass the app’s geofencing and schedule appointments from outside Mexico.
The Washington Examiner reported that cartels continued charging migrants between $3,000 and $50,000 depending on distance using these VPN changes. This contributed to a 30% increase in migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border.
Green is a physician and has served as the U.S. Representative for Tennessee's 7th District since 2019. He is also a member of both the House Committee on Homeland Security and the House Committee on Foreign Affairs.
