Scottish man sentenced to 25 years for transporting child abuse material into the U.S

U.S. District Judge Wendy D. Berger has sentenced Steven Paul McInally, a 36-year-old man from Scotland, to 25 years in federal prison for transporting and possessing child sexual abuse material. McInally entered a guilty plea on November 1, 2024.

Court documents indicate that McInally arrived at Orlando International Airport on August 25, 2023, for a vacation from Scotland. During a border search upon his arrival, law enforcement discovered child sexual abuse material on his cellphone. Among the materials were images of minors taken during a sleepover party at his home. A forensic review identified approximately 3,900 images and 70 videos of such material on his device.

The investigation was conducted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection and Homeland Security Investigations, with Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie A. McNeff prosecuting the case.

This prosecution is part of Project Safe Childhood, an initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to address child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates resources from federal, state, and local levels to apprehend offenders and rescue victims. More information about Project Safe Childhood can be found at www.justice.gov/psc.
