East St. Louis woman sentenced to 10 years for drug distribution

U.S. District Judge Stephen N. Limbaugh Jr. has sentenced Georgia R. Phillips, a 49-year-old resident of East St. Louis, Illinois, to ten years in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute cocaine base.

According to court records, Phillips was stopped for a traffic violation on Interstate 55 in Pemiscot County last May. During the stop, officers found large quantities of controlled substances in her vehicle, including about four ounces of crack cocaine. Phillips admitted she was traveling from East St. Louis to deliver the drugs to an individual in Hayti, Missouri. The two had met while serving a previous sentence for drug trafficking.

Phillips pleaded guilty last year and acknowledged her intention to distribute the controlled substances. Following her prison term, she will undergo three years of supervised release.

The case was investigated by the Pemiscot County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Assistant United States Attorney Jack Koester prosecuted the case.
