Hazard man receives prison sentence for meth trafficking

A man from Hazard, Kentucky, Herbert Allen, has been sentenced to 126 months in prison for methamphetamine trafficking. U.S. District Judge Claria Horn Boom delivered the sentence on Tuesday after Allen was found guilty of possession with intent to distribute over 500 grams of methamphetamine.

The charges stemmed from an incident on May 30, 2023, when Allen was discovered with a kilogram of methamphetamine. Law enforcement officials had obtained a search warrant for his residence. Upon their arrival, they found Allen in his vehicle and he confessed that a backpack containing a large amount of methamphetamine was inside. A subsequent search revealed approximately 1,084 grams of methamphetamine, plastic baggies, and a significant amount of cash.

Federal law mandates that Allen must serve at least 85 percent of his prison term. After completing his sentence, he will be supervised by the U.S. Probation Office for three years.

The sentencing announcement was made jointly by Carlton S. Shier IV, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky; Michael Stansbury, Special Agent in Charge at the FBI's Louisville Field Office; and Phillip J. Burnett Jr., Commissioner of the Kentucky State Police.

The investigation leading to Allen's conviction was carried out by the FBI and Kentucky State Police (KSP). Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Blankenship prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
